About Jalba
Alrighty then! My name is Josh Alba. I am a musician, audio engineer and mixer, and music producer located in Houston, TX. I come ready-made with a lot of passion and enthusiasm, a broad range of music and music production skills, and the desire to help people see their visions become reality. My greatest musical strength is connecting the emotional expression of music with the technique and skill to bring it seamlessly together.
I was “bitten by the bug” of wanting to make music my career when I was 16 years old while listening to one of the greatest saxophonists of all time, Kirk Whalum. Hearing him melt faces with smokin’ lines of otherworldly harmonic genius, dripping with soul and pocket, I also heard music calling to me.
I studied at the world-renown Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA as a saxophone principle and majoring in Music Production & Engineering, and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2012. Prior to attending Berklee, I spent a year as a music composition major at TCU in Texas, and also spent part of my time at Berklee as a dual major in Contemporary Writing & Production. Suffice to say that with all of this music education, I spent a LOT of time playing saxophone, studying music theory, composing and arranging music. But most of all, I spent exorbitant amounts of time in the studio and behind a console, where I found my calling become loud and clear!
Since graduating from Berklee, I have been busy working between studio production and live production! In that time, I mixed Front of House, Monitors and Broadcast shows for many people, such as Danny Gokee and Natalie Grant, Cece Winans, BJ Putnam, Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes, Crowder, Gateway Worship and Gateway Español, and many others.
I was incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to work with my musical hero and inspiration, Kirk Whalum, on his album Romance Language, which debuted #1 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Chart in February of 2012, and I received credit as an Assistant Engineer.
More recently, “Best Dressed” a song that I produced, recorded and mixed was featured in an iZotope article in September of 2022, titled “How to Use Compression In Mastering” which was authored by Jett Galindo. Feel free to check that out here
